The Brain Hack to Stop Obsessing Over Decisions
Minneapolis Music Wall
Do you ever make a decision and then spend all day worrying that you made the right one?
Here’s a little brain insight: your brain actually likes when you make decisions. Decisions give your brain a sense of control, trigger a little hit of dopamine (the feel-good chemical), and help it learn what works and what doesn’t. Basically, your brain is wired to reward action, not indecision.
But here’s the tricky part—once the decision is made, your brain sometimes struggles. It loves to replay the “what ifs” and “maybe I should have…” scenarios. Regret and second-guessing are just your brain’s way of trying to protect you, making sure you don’t get hurt in the future. Unfortunately, that just leads to unnecessary worry and anxiety.
Here’s one of my favorite brain hacks: when you make a decision, go all in. Don’t look back. Tell yourself:
“This was the best decision to make because it is the one I actually made.”
And when your brain tries to argue with you? Tell it to stop! Ain’t nobody got time for regrets and unnecessary worry.
Support yourself in the decision you made, and watch how that decision transforms into the best decision. This frees you from so much anxiety and gives you more energy to actually live your life.
Who needs all that mental chaos anyway? You sure don’t, my friend.
